How to Ensure Success in Your Career
"One of the the keys to success in your career is passion, but how do you know if you're passionate about what you do, and why is that important?"
Well there are certain things that are somewhat characteristic of an individual. One, there has to be something that you’re passionate about. I don’t care what that is. You can reassign it if you will to a business entity but you have to be able to be all in, to put yourself out there. You have to be willing to fail. You have to be accepting of that as a fact. I think that’s a good idea and go forward with the intention of success and have it be “well that’s not exactly how I thought that that was going to go, but then not have that deter you from keep moving forward. Take the best of what that is and then move ahead and make a change. So passion for sure is something that you really understand. If you start off because it looks good on a business portfolio if you will, or a spreadsheet or can I make money on it, sooner or later you’ll find that you probably don’t have your heart in it, and that will probably not be the best venture.
So one common thing that I try and give the people that are going to be better and going to be next is who do you want to learn from? What matters? If you find people that you want to learn from, it doesn’t matter who. It could be the most prominent CEO in the world down to a neighbor. Why do you want to learn from them, and what do you want to learn from them? If you go seeking the knowledge as opposed to go looking for an answer you’ll find more answers but you’ll find more questions from people that are willing to engage in you because you’re worth that time. Go find out who you want to learn from. You can make those environments happen very easily. You can look at MBA programs, or study programs and I think that they are all positive and contributive, but I think if you go look where you can engage someone that you can impart with already, and you can assimilate that, that’s where you’re going to gain your most knowledge.
