The youth minimum wage applies to employees who are
under 20 years of age during the first 90 consecutive calendar days after initial
employment. The US Department of Labor has since announced that the youth minimum wage will not be impacted by
the scheduled increases, but will remain at a constant $4.25 per hour.
In states that have their own state minimum wage laws, employers covered by the
Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) are subject to the higher of the prevailing
state minimum wage rate or the prevailing federal minimum wage rate.
