The youth minimum wage applies to employees who are under 20 years of age during the first 90 consecutive calendar days after initial employment. The US Department of Labor has since announced that the youth minimum wage will not be impacted by the scheduled increases, but will remain at a constant $4.25 per hour.


In states that have their own state minimum wage laws, employers covered by the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) are subject to the higher of the prevailing state minimum wage rate or the prevailing federal minimum wage rate.

**Kansas--The youth minimum wage is 80% of the adult minimum wage upon hire, 90% after 2 months, and the full adult wage after 3 months
***Oklahoma--Awaiting confirmation from the state agency on the amount of the youth minimum wage
