June 27, 2012 In a scarce job market for emerging professionals- experience is the key to putting new graduates ahead of their competitors. "You have to be an active participant in this educational process" says Brian Howard, Professor at Brigham Young University Idaho. Brian hosts the television show Latter-day Profiles, a program produced completely by students. The purpose of the program is to run a professional students oriented agency to prepare students at the university to compete for employment in the work force. About Brian Howard
Professor Brian Howard started his broadcast career at a low-power AM station at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. He continued to work in radio and television as a student at Southern Utah University where he earned his bachelor's degree. He took his first full time job in television as a reporter/anchor at KPVI-TV in Pocatello, Idaho. After several years there he left to work on a master's degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. At BYU he worked as an assignment editor for the university's student-run integrated television, radio, newspaper, and internet newsroom. He also worked as a producer and video editor at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, and as a producer and director at KBYU Television. He accepted a teaching position at Ricks College in 1999, and enjoyed the process of creating a new four-year broadcast program as Ricks became Brigham Young University-Idaho. Howard earned his Ph.D. in Education from the University of Idaho in 2010. He currently teaches broadcast journalism and mass media courses at BYU-Idaho and is the host and executive producer of Latter-day Profiles. Latter-day Profiles is produced by students, and is a talk show that features noteworthy members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The program airs every Sunday at 9:35 Pacific time on BYU Television.
