The Boy Scouts of America presents it’s Inaugural Friends of Scouting Kick-off Dinner
OAKLAND, CA, January 24, 2011 - The San Francisco Bay Area Council will host its Inaugural Friends of Scouting Kick-Off Dinner at the Oakland Marriott on Thursday, February 17, 2011. The Dinner will feature two dynamic speakers: James D. “Jim” Rogers, CEO of KOA Kampgrounds of America, as well as NBA All-Star Mark Eaton, Eagle Scout and lifelong supporter of Scouting.. In addition to the dynamic Speakers the program will feature 2001-2002 Rotary International President Richard King as emcee.
One of the purposes of our inaugural FOS Kick-off Dinner event, (in addition to hearing from our great speakers and telling the Scouting story), is to raise some significant dollars for Scouting. All the dollars raised on February 17th will assist the Boy Scout Council in its efforts to serve almost 20,000 youth during the year. The dinner has been completely underwritten which allows 100% of the money donated that night to go directly to benefitting our children and investing in their future.
“When I learned that Jim Rogers and Mark Eaton were to be our guest speakers at the event, I became an enthusiastic supporter…enough of one to become the Dinner Chair for our inaugural event” says Alan Olsen Managing Partner of Greenstein, Rogoff, Olsen and Co.
Jim Rogers is Chairman and CEO of KOA Kampgrounds of America, Inc.; however, he has also donated countless hours of service to the Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to hearing from Jim Rogers we will be able to hear how Eagle Scout, Mark Eaton has transformed thousands of lives by sharing his story of going from a 7’4” auto mechanic who couldn’t play basketball to an NBA All Star and 2 time Defensive Player of the Year during his 12 year career.
