About Tom Rees- Google's Landlord
Mr. Tom Rees has over 32 years of experience in commercial real estate.
Mr. Rees received his undergraduate degree from Claremont McKenna College in 1974 and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1979. After graduating, he entered commercial real estate as a leasing broker with Coldwell Banker. In 1983, he joined Cornish & Carey Commercial as an investment broker where he became one of Silicon Valley’s top brokers. He has since become a highly successful and experienced real estate investor.
In 1988 Mr. Rees formed a venture capital company that managed various business ventures. One of his most successful ventures was raising private investor capital for his venture, Northern Communications, a cellular telephone license holder. Through his management Mr. Rees returned his investors sixty four times their initial investment during the period 1988 to 1991.
In 1992, he formed Rees Properties, Inc. which took over a portfolio of real estate projects from a bankrupt general partner/syndicator.
Mr. Rees brings all his legal, financial, management and business experience, as well as his financial resources and integrity to Rees Properties, Inc. and each of the properties he owns. He believes in conservative, low leverage financial management, cash liquidity and a “hands-on” ownership style.
Today, Mr. Rees personally owns approximately 250,000 sq. ft of prime Mountain View Office and R&D properties. These include SAFC, a 60,000 six story multi-tenant, Class A office building, a 51,000 sq. ft. facility leased to Google on a long term lease, and Mountain View Gateway, the aforementioned 120,000 sq, ft. multi-tenant Class A office building in downtown Mountain View with two levels of underground parking.
As an owner and investor, Mr. Rees understands the importance of asset and property management. He believes they are critical to successful real estate investing.
