The Life of an Intern
"I have loved my time working at GROCO. In life we learn the most,
when we experience what we are learning. As college students draw closer to receiving
their degrees, they find themselves being pushed out into a work world that in some
cases is completely foreign to them. Completing an internship at Greenstein, Rogoff,
Olsen and Company has allowed me, as a college student, to dip my feet into the
accounting world before diving in.
"Each morning I walk through
two large wooden doors inscribed in gold lettering with “Greenstein Rogoff Olsen
& Co., LLP.” As I think of what can be accomplished in the new day, I greet
staff that are making their way to their desks. If I do not have a project that
I have been assigned, I see what needs to be accomplished as I check the racks up
front or visit staff to see how I can assist them. In my short time at GROCO, I
have learned the importance of pulling my load as a team member. No one person is
given all of the work to do, but each staff member contributes in their own way
to make sure that the task at hand is completed.
"As the year approached
April 15th, I began to understand the true definition behind the words
“tax season.” The work load began to pick up pace as I learned many new procedures
in the office. 1040, 540 and other tax returns passed through my hands daily as
I helped in processing them for clients. On busy days, I sometimes did not leave
the office until 9:00pm, but these late nights were rewarded with dinner brought
in by restaurants from around the area.
"As an intern at GROCO,
I always felt welcome and part of the company. Christmas
parties, baseball games, and company picnics help bring the co-workers together
and allowed me to become acquainted with co-workers in a social setting.
"My internship at Greenstein
Rogoff Olsen & Co., LLP has allowed me to glimpse into the accounting world
as I am discovering what my career will be like someday. The experiences and skills
that I have obtained while working at the firm have built up my enthusiasm as I
jump into my future."

Ready to Work in the Real World
There are many good reasons to complete an accounting internship with Greenstein,
Rogoff, Olsen & Co., LLP (GROCO). First, GROCO gives me the opportunity to prepare
tax returns for corporations, partnerships, trusts and individuals. Aside from tax
preparation, I also learn about corporate evaluations and audits.
Second, I am working in a pleasant atmosphere. As you know, during the tax season,
everyone is tired and busy; however, I hear laughing and see smiling faces everywhere
in the office. I was surprised when I met the partners. They don’t distance
themselves from the staff. This may be my most favorite part of my internship.
Third, I deeply appreciate my "buddy." Each member at GROCO has an advisor. My advisor,
Cindy, helps me every single day along with Mandy and Rupinder. I can say they are my tutors. If I have a question about my assignments
that I get from a supervisor or partner, I never hesitate to ask them.
I have more good reasons to work with GROCO such as the Monday Tax classes with
a Partner
Ron Cohen, flexible starting work time, good refreshments in kitchen, free dinner
during the busy season, nice weather, safe town, and more. Finally, as an intern,
this experience with GROCO has helped me gain confidence to feel ready to work in
the real world.

A Constructive Learning Environment
Greenstein, Rogoff, Olsen & Co, LLP has established and maintains a constructive
learning environment. At the beginning of my internship my questions were endless.
Whether it was a question about an assignment I was working on or how to operate
certain software, finding answers to these and many other questions was easy because
I had been assigned a “buddy” at the start of my internship – someone to help me
overcome the challenges I would face as a new intern. In addition to my “buddy”,
I had access to senior staff members, firm managers and directors, and even partners.
All were willing and able to answer my questions.
I was surprised with the variety
and complexity of work that I was given. Often, when people think of interns, what
comes to mind are the mundane and menial tasks that no one else wants to do. However,
at GROCO, I was given a myriad of challenging and rewarding assignments. I’ve had the
opportunity to do a bit of it all: tax returns for individuals, businesses and trusts;
bookkeeping and accounting for a variety of businesses; numerous payroll assignments;
and challenging and rewarding research assignments.
Perhaps what I like most about working as an intern at GROCO is being treated as
a member of their staff. The responsibilities I am given matter. Just like any other
employee, I am expected to perform to the best of my ability; the work I accomplish
is a reflection of who I am and, ultimately, the company itself. At Greenstein,
Rogoff, Olsen & Co., you truly have an opportunity to contribute while gaining
experience that will be beneficial in whatever professional career path you choose.
